Spurs Captain Son Heung-min Hails Postecoglou as a “Legend” Following Surprise Sacking

Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has paid an emotional tribute to Ange Postecoglou, calling him a "legend" who transformed the club, despite the manager’s sudden dismissal.

Postecoglou, 59, was sacked just over two weeks after leading Spurs to their first silverware in 17 years with a Europa League triumph. Despite the victory, Spurs endured a tough Premier League campaign, finishing 17th with 22 losses in 38 games.

Taking to Instagram, Son expressed deep gratitude:

“Gaffer, you changed the trajectory of this club. From day one, you believed in yourself and in us. You did it your way—and gave us the best night in decades. Being named captain by you was one of the greatest honors of my career.”

Son added that Postecoglou made him a better player and person and concluded, “You are a Tottenham legend forever. Thank you, mate.”

Tributes from the Dressing Room

Other players joined in to honor Postecoglou’s legacy:

  • James Maddison, who was signed under Postecoglou and named vice-captain, said:
“You led us to European glory and made us believe. Beyond tactics, your character and values inspired us. I’ve learned so much from you.”

  • Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario shared:
“You believed in me from the start, and being part of the leadership group meant so much. I’ll never forget what we accomplished together.”

  • Defender Micky van de Ven thanked the coach for his unwavering faith:
“You kept pushing us through ups and downs. I’m forever grateful to be part of the club’s success.”

  • Forward Dominic Solanke added:
“Thank you for bringing me in and helping us achieve our dream. I’ll never forget our conversations before I signed.”

Fans and the Future

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust said most fans will “love Ange forever,” acknowledging that while league results fell short, his cup success left a meaningful legacy.

As for his replacement, Brentford’s Thomas Frank leads a shortlist that includes Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth), Marco Silva (Fulham), Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace), and former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
