Chase Chrisley’s 29th birthday turned into an unforgettable celebration as it marked the return of his parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, from prison following a presidential pardon.
The Chrisley Knows
Best star took to Instagram to share the emotional news, posting a screenshot of a report confirming that his parents were finally heading home. In the caption, he wrote, “Best birthday gift I could ask for.” This birthday was especially meaningful, being the first he spent with both parents since their incarceration.
Todd, 56, and Julie, 52, were granted a full pardon by former President Donald Trump and released on May 28, 2025. The pair had been serving time in separate federal prisons—Todd in Florida and Julie in Kentucky—following their 2022 conviction on charges of tax evasion and bank fraud.
Their return sparked an emotional reunion. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chase shared, “We were all hugging each other and crying. It was just a beautiful moment—answered prayers for sure. I can't even describe the amount of joy I felt.”
He added that the reunion between his parents was particularly moving. “They both just burst into tears. My dad wrapped his arms around my mom, and I don’t think he’s let go since. I don’t think he ever will.”
Legal Background and Conviction
The Chrisleys’ legal troubles began in August 2019 when they were indicted by a federal grand jury in Atlanta on 12 counts, including wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and defrauding the United States. Prosecutors claimed they evaded nearly $2 million in taxes and secured over $30 million in fraudulent loans over a decade.
Despite pleading not guilty and insisting that a former employee was to blame, the couple was convicted on all counts in June 2022. In November of the same year, Todd was sentenced to 12 years and Julie to 7 years in prison.
Time in Prison and Family Struggles
The couple began serving their sentences in January 2023. For the duration of their imprisonment, they had no contact with each other due to prison regulations. Their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, who assumed custody of her younger siblings Grayson and Chloe, frequently voiced concerns about the conditions her parents were enduring behind bars.
Savannah revealed that prison authorities blocked email correspondence between Todd and Julie and even alleged mistreatment and attempted extortion during Todd’s time in prison. In a podcast episode, she recounted how a photograph of her father asleep was used to demand money for his protection.
Todd himself spoke out about poor prison conditions in an interview, detailing issues like expired food, pest infestations, and black mold in the facility where he was held.
Julie's Sentencing Review and Apology
In June 2024, a U.S. Court of Appeals overturned Julie’s seven-year sentence, citing miscalculations by the trial judge. However, the decision did not nullify her conviction. Later that year, during a resentencing hearing, the court upheld the original sentence. Julie offered a tearful apology, expressing regret for her actions and the pain caused to her children.
“I’ve had 20 months in prison, but it has been much more leading up to the trial. I can’t ever repay my children for what they’ve had to go through, and for that, I am so sorry,” she said in court.Presidential Pardon and Release
The breakthrough came in May 2025 when Savannah received a call from former President Donald Trump informing her that her parents would receive a full pardon. She expressed gratitude in a statement, saying, “This moment is the answer to countless prayers, and I am beyond grateful to President Trump for seeing the truth and restoring my family.”
The next day, Todd and Julie were released and returned to their home in Nashville, Tennessee.
Looking Ahead
With their legal chapter now behind them, the Chrisleys appear focused on healing and rebuilding their lives. For Chase, celebrating a birthday with his family back together was more than just a milestone—it was a new beginning.
