‘Genius’ Yamal Leads Spain to Nations League Final – Why They're World Cup Favourites

Lamine Yamal continues to shine on the international stage as Spain edge France 5-4 in a Nations League semi-final thriller.

Spain's thrilling 5-4 victory over France in the Nations League semi-final has only strengthened their position as frontrunners for the upcoming World Cup. In a match packed with drama, goals, and unforgettable moments, it was teenage sensation Lamine Yamal who stole the spotlight once again.

Spain surged to a 4-0 lead and later made it 5-1 before France launched a late comeback, nearly forcing extra time. The high-scoring game featured 40 shots and 17 on target, captivating fans around the globe.

“It was a crazy game,” admitted Mikel Merino, who scored one of Spain’s goals. “Not ideal for coaches, but incredible for spectators.”

Manager Luis de la Fuente took a philosophical approach: “I enjoy suffering! That’s part of sport. When two top teams play, moments swing both ways.”

Yamal, still only 17, netted twice to bring his international tally to six goals, complementing his stellar form at Barcelona. His performances are drawing serious Ballon d’Or buzz and clearly outshined France's PSG stars Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue.

Although France staged a valiant comeback, it was debutant Rayan Cherki who made a significant impact, scoring and assisting to breathe life back into his team. His performance has intensified transfer interest from Liverpool and Manchester City.

Spain will now face Portugal in Sunday’s final, with the momentum and talent to potentially claim their third consecutive major tournament title after winning Euro 2024 and the previous Nations League.
