Britney Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, is sharing a rare look into the lives of their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James Federline, in his upcoming memoir You Thought You Knew, set to release on October 21, 2025.
The memoir captures Kevin’s reflections as a father, shedding light on how his and Britney’s teenage sons are carving out their paths to adulthood far away from the media frenzy that once surrounded their family.
Sean Preston and Jayden James: Grown and Finding Themselves
Kevin revealed that both his sons have grown remarkably since stepping out of the constant spotlight. According to him, 20-year-old Sean Preston, who now prefers his middle name, has become “way less anxious” and “more comfortable in his own skin.”
“Preston seemed like he was finally stepping out of the shell he’d lived in for so long,” Kevin wrote. “He’s still the quiet one, but he’s opening up, hanging out with friends, and making young memories.”
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Jayden James is “finding his lane” and taking his love for music seriously. “He got the chance to mess around in the school band room,” Kevin noted, “even though he couldn’t read music.”
Kevin proudly shared that both boys are exploring their creative sides, much like their parents. “Both of them have different paths they want to take, but music will always be part of their lives whether it’s production, sound design for films, or something else.”
Following In Their Parents’ Footsteps
While Preston is described as “a calm, deep thinker with a love for music,” Jayden is more of “a firecracker bold, expressive, and full of energy.”
As kids, Kevin recalled, Jayden would often roar like a dinosaur or mimic sound effects perfectly — and now, that same charisma fuels his passion for making music.
“Watching both of them grow into themselves has filled me with pride,” Kevin wrote. “We’ve done everything we could to prepare them for life, and I know they’re ready.”
Life After Hawaii & The Road Ahead
The Federline family had what Kevin called a “transformative experience” while living in Hawaii. It helped both sons rediscover themselves but Jayden has since returned to Los Angeles to chase his dreams in music. Preston, on the other hand, is still figuring out adulthood and where his next steps will lead.
“Jayden has already returned to L.A., chasing his music dreams,” Kevin said. “Preston is finding his way as an adult.”
On Britney Spears: Distance, Family, and Healing
Kevin’s memoir doesn’t shy away from the challenges between Britney and her sons. He claimed that the boys were sometimes “too scared to stay at her home,” but added that they remained close to Britney’s siblings, Jamie Lynn Spears and Bryan Spears.
“It made me happy to see that there was a good connection there,” Kevin shared, “and it came at a time when they really needed it.”
However, Britney’s team quickly responded to Kevin’s claims. In a statement to E! News on October 14, her representative said:
“Once again, he and others are profiting off her, and sadly it comes after child support has ended.
All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism.”
Britney herself had previously shared her perspective in her own bestselling memoir, The Woman in Me.
