Tim Burton and Monica Bellucci have officially gone their separate ways after two years of dating. The couple, who first made their red carpet debut in October 2023 at the Diabolik Chi Sei? premiere during the Rome Film Festival, confirmed the breakup on September 19, 2025.
“It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways,” the pair said in a joint statement to AFP.
The Edward Scissorhands director and the Malèna actress first crossed paths at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 but reconnected years later at the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, where Bellucci presented Burton with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Their romance blossomed soon after, with Bellucci openly expressing her admiration for Burton’s artistry in interviews.
In a 2023 conversation with Elle France, Bellucci shared:
“I’m very happy to have met the man, first of all… I love Tim. And I respect Tim Burton enormously.”
She later emphasized that while their careers sometimes overlapped — Bellucci even starred in Burton’s 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice — they kept their personal life separate from their professional collaborations.
Both stars brought long personal histories into the relationship. Bellucci was previously married to actor Vincent Cassel, with whom she shares two daughters. Burton was in a long-term relationship with actress Helena Bonham Carter, with whom he has two children.+
Though their romance has ended, both Burton and Bellucci have spoken in the past about valuing relationships for what they bring to one’s life, even if they don’t last forever.
