In a disturbing incident that has shocked residents of Ondo, operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, have apprehended a 29-year-old tailor and commercial motorcyclist, Lekan Bakare, for allegedly assaulting a 35-year-old woman at knifepoint in the Alusekere area of Ede.
Commander Confirms Arrest
The State Commander of Amotekun, Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, confirmed the arrest during a press briefing in Osogbo, where he paraded Bakare alongside two other suspects facing separate charges.
Deception and Threats
According to the victim, Bakare lured her to his residence under the false pretense of helping her search for her missing ward. Upon her arrival, he reportedly pulled out a locally made pistol and a knife, using them to threaten her before allegedly forcing himself on her.
Following the woman's swift and courageous report to authorities, Amotekun operatives launched an urgent manhunt. The suspect was located and arrested shortly after and has since confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Other Arrests: Burglary and Theft
In addition to Bakare’s case, Commander Omoyele also revealed the arrest of two other individuals suspected of burglary and theft involving items worth millions of naira.
One of the suspects, Kayode Adekunle, a 30-year-old bricklayer, allegedly broke into an uncompleted residential building located in a developing area of Osogbo. He reportedly stole electrical tools and wiring materials valued at over ₦2.5 million. Omoyele stated that Adekunle used his familiarity with the site to gain access after work hours. Discreet surveillance by the Corps led to his arrest at his home, where the stolen items were recovered.
Another Tailor Arrested for Theft
In a separate operation, Amotekun also arrested Lawal Musa, a 23-year-old tailor originally from Kaduna but residing in the Sabo area of Osogbo. Musa was caught after allegedly stealing a number of household items, including a flat-screen TV, two standing fans, and electrical cables, with an estimated value exceeding ₦800,000.
During interrogation, Musa confessed to the crime and admitted to selling the stolen goods to a local buyer identified as “Rilwan.” He reportedly sold the television for just ₦27,000 and the fans for ₦30,000, far below their actual worth.
Criminal Cases Transferred for Prosecution
Commander Omoyele noted that all cases have been handed over to relevant authorities for comprehensive investigation and prosecution. He reaffirmed the agency's commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state.
“These arrests demonstrate our zero-tolerance policy on crime in Osun State,” he said. “We urge the public to support our efforts by providing timely and credible information. Together, we can create a safe and secure environment for all.”
