As Lagos gears up for its highly anticipated Local Government elections on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of movement across the state—from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Election Day.
This decisive measure, according to Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, is aimed at ensuring a safe, peaceful, and credible electoral process throughout the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
🚫 Who is affected by the movement restriction?
All roads and waterways within Lagos will be affected. However, exemptions apply to:
-
Emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire services)
-
Official security teams on electoral duty
-
LASIEC-accredited election workers
-
Media personnel with LASIEC-approved ID tags
-
Accredited election observers
🔐 Security Rules at Voting Centers
The police also issued strict guidelines for conduct at voting and collation centres:
-
No armed escorts or private security aides are allowed.
-
Politicians and public officials must not appear at polling units with security personnel.
-
Use of sirens and covered license plates is banned during the election period.
⚠️ Violators Beware!
The command made it clear that anyone found violating the movement order or attempting to disrupt the electoral process will be immediately arrested and prosecuted.
