Lagos Police Enforce 12-Hour Movement Ban Ahead of July 12 LGA Elections

As Lagos gears up for its highly anticipated Local Government elections on Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of movement across the state—from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Election Day.

This decisive measure, according to Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, is aimed at ensuring a safe, peaceful, and credible electoral process throughout the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

🚫 Who is affected by the movement restriction?

All roads and waterways within Lagos will be affected. However, exemptions apply to:

  • Emergency vehicles (ambulances, fire services)

  • Official security teams on electoral duty

  • LASIEC-accredited election workers

  • Media personnel with LASIEC-approved ID tags

  • Accredited election observers

🔐 Security Rules at Voting Centers

The police also issued strict guidelines for conduct at voting and collation centres:

  • No armed escorts or private security aides are allowed.

  • Politicians and public officials must not appear at polling units with security personnel.

  • Use of sirens and covered license plates is banned during the election period.

⚠️ Violators Beware!

The command made it clear that anyone found violating the movement order or attempting to disrupt the electoral process will be immediately arrested and prosecuted.

Parents and guardians are advised to warn their children against engaging in election-related violence. The police also encouraged all Lagosians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities by calling the emergency numbers:
