Agabi Seeks Forgiveness for Nnamdi Kanu as Awomolo Accepts Apology

Agabi, a former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, is once again leading the defense of Nnamdi Kanu. He previously represented Kanu at the Court of Appeal, where the remaining seven charges against him were dropped, following efforts from another senior advocate, Mike Ozekhome, who succeeded in getting eight out of the fifteen amended charges dismissed in 2021.

In a heartfelt address, Agabi specifically asked Justice Nyako and Chief Adegboyega Awomolo to forgive and forget the outbursts Kanu had made against them in the courtroom.

Agabi acknowledged that Kanu's anger was understandable but emphasized that it was wrong for him to express it in such a way. He explained, “Kanu's frustration led him to attack the Federal High Court, Justice Nyako, the prosecutor, and even his own legal team. He deeply regrets this and sincerely apologizes to Justice Binta Nyako, who did not deserve such an unfair attack. He also apologizes to Chief Awomolo, who has shown him nothing but respect but was unjustly criticized.”

Agabi continued by appealing for forgiveness, stating that Kanu, though not perfect, is a good man who has been passionately defending the cause of the Igbo people. "We all have our differences, but we must seek peace and resolution, not violence," he urged.

In a brief response, Awomolo expressed that he was touched by the apology and had forgiven Kanu for his earlier remarks. He reassured everyone that his role as a prosecutor was to ensure a fair and speedy resolution to the case, not to seek any personal vendetta.
